Initiative 872 will limit your choices in the general election. If you are a member of the Libertarian or Green Party, or another “minor” party, passage of I-872 will likely result in your candidate not appearing on the ballot in the general election. This is the final blow to our right to choose our representatives, and plays directly into the hands of the Republican and Democratic parties.
If you want to vote for someone who is running as something other than a Republican or Democrat, or want to allow your fellow citizen (voter) to be able to choose who they want to vote for, then please do not vote for I-872. It is designed such that only the “top two” advance from the primary to the general election. Unfortunately, since only the Democrats and Republicans seem to get more than 3 to 5 percent of the vote, it stands to reason that only Democrats and Republicans will appear on the general election ballot. In effect, this negates my vote because I will never vote for candidates of either of those “parties.”
