Memories go back to Desert Storm, now with this war that’s going on. My son, while in the Marines, was involved with Desert Storm in Kuwait. My daughter had been in the Army years earlier and was close to being called back in during Desert Storm. She would have had to leave behind two small children in my care.
I reflect, and am grateful, that I have my son and daughter alive and part of history. Of those who knew the mental anguish I went through, I can now give experiences and support to those in the military and their loved ones left behind. I urge some of my co-workers to continue to work and to keep focused as I did. Being idle and dwelling on the situation makes matters worse. One can be productive and still have emotions. It is vital, I believe, for those “left behind” to share their feelings and support one another. Anyone going in the military accepts (or should) whatever situation he or she is faced with, and does their best. We need to be here for them when they return.
I’m proud I come from a military family, proud of my children and all military people, and, of course, my country!
