As much as Community Transit prides itself on serving the public, why is it that whenever there is a hiccup in the budget they always drop a day of service instead of taking into consideration that the people of Snohomish County need bus service seven days a week?
When Initiative 695 passed, Community Transit immediately dropped Saturday and Sunday service and said that they would reinstate the service if the public would vote for an increase of sales tax. Now there is another hiccup in their budget and so they are once again dropping Sunday service. But of course if the Legislature would pass a tax increase, like a $20 car tab license fee, they might be able to then reinstate Sunday service. Something very fishy is going on here.
But why doesn’t Metro cut a day of service? And why doesn’t Pierce County cut a day of service? Maybe because they know and care about what their ridership needs instead of the crass attitude of Community Transit for its ridership. Instead of cutting a day of service, Metro and Pierce cut all their deadwood from their support and management personnel, trimmed their service and yet they manage to keep seven-days-a-week bus service.
Maybe Community Transit needs to give Metro a call and have them do their planning for them. Or just get rid of all their deadwood and restore Sunday service for the people of Snohomish County.
