Regarding the Thursday article, “City opens checkbook to make 4th a lot flashier”: In this time of unemployment and hunger, I feel that Everett Mayor Frank Anderson would have done much better to take the $8,000 and donate it to a local food bank or center for battered women than to see it simply go up in smoke and a flash of fire. I think the price tag on pride is just too high in this case and shows a shocking insensitivity to the need in our local communities.
