Monroe basketball coaches not getting support

I would like to revisit the Monroe High School athletic director’s decision to fire boys basketball coach Tyson Horner two years ago. In his four years as the head coach, the Cats either played in the championship game or the winner to regional loser-out game.

Two years ago with the best player in the league they did not make it to either game. This year they did not even make the playoffs and did not have enough kids turnout to have a ninth-grade team. The athletic director told Horner he needed to send out a survey to players and parents on his program; 111 surveys were sent; 37 came back.

We all know which 37 they were. It was the athletic director’s responsibility to make sure all the surveys were returned if he was going to use it as tool in his decision to fire Horner. He also hired a coach who had only been a head coach for one year and was let go from that position, and I just learned that Coach Williams was fired at Monroe. I wonder what those parents who were instrumental in having Coach Horner fired and Coach Williams hired feel like now. They have since moved on, and now the program is without a head coach and they must find someone who can come in and rebuild the program.

I will be surprised if any coaches in the area apply for the job which should be a good job at a large 4A high school, but if they do any kind of vetting they will find that there will not be a lot of support from the athletic director if parents complain.
