Monroe hospital levy will help provide obstetrics care

As a primary care physician, I care for patients of all ages and with varying health care needs. While I offer individualized care for each of my patients, one aspect that influences every patient relationship and treatment plan is my passion for holistic, comprehensive care.

The same approach applies for my patients who have young families or are in the process of trying to start a family. I often hear from expecting mothers about the logistical struggles they face while navigating prenatal care, as EvergreenHealth Monroe is currently unable to offer comprehensive obstetrics services. For example, many must secure childcare in order to travel outside the region to OB appointments, or take off a half-day of work due to the extended travel time.

EvergreenHealth Monroe has launched an initiative to bring obstetrics care back to Monroe, A Healthier Community is Born Here, on which residents of Snohomish County Public Hospital District No. 1 will have the chance to vote on April 23.

As a physician and as a mother, I understand how having OB care right here in this community will not only be more convenient for patients, but also how it can lead to better patient outcomes for mom and baby. Being able to refer expecting mothers to an OB provider just down the road at EvergreenHealth Monroe will enable primary care physicians to more closely collaborate with the OB team to provide the most comprehensive care to our patients, well beyond delivery day.
