‘Monster’ is back, but can be stopped

The “monster” is back! We have heard nothing from the monster for some time, until he surfaced again last week destroying more innocent lives. The monster that I speak of is domestic violence. It seems we only hear of him when tragedy strikes. Why is it that women and children seem like bait for headlines by the media? Headlines should read along the lines of: “Help is available for those who abuse their loved ones!” “Help us help you, before tragedy strikes.” Why wait until the headlines tell of families dying from domestic violence? Why wait until after it happens? Why not try to stop it before it starts?

Domestic violence affects everyone involved. There are no winners, everyone loses and feels the pain. Once that violence is delivered, there is no taking it back. There is no excuse for violence in the home – or anywhere for that matter. If you are a victim, contact a domestic violence hotline and get help. If you feel you may become an abuser, please contact the National Traffic Safety Institute online at www.ntsinw.com and sign up to attend their anger management class. It is a fantastic class, and has some great information. It is informal, and if you keep an open mind you will learn not only a lot about anger, but also about yourself.

I am writing this letter because the “monster” appeared in my family last year. I want to stop the monster before it can ever strike again. I want to do my part to put a stop to domestic violence. I hope you don’t become an abuser, and if you feel you might, please seek help before someone gets hurt. It can be avoided. Stop the pain before it begins. Please.
