Navalny’s death loss for Russia, world

The world was informed recently that Alexei Navalny died in a Russian prison. His cause of death has not been confirmed by the Russian government, but any eventual explanation will likely be spurious. We all know the real reason behind Navalny’s death: his vocal opposition to Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

This is what is so terrible about totalitarian regimes, aging leaders like President Putin destroy the bravest sons and daughters of their nation to eliminate the competition before these younger agitators have a chance to become strong enough to force a peaceful transfer of power.

Navalny would have eventually become president, if he had been born in America. Instead, he died an early death in a Russian prison, where he was incarcerated on trumped-up corruption charges.

There are no words to articulate the depth of the loss to Russia and the world by Mr. Navalny’s unjust death. This is a day of mourning for the lost opportunity at peace, democracy and government accountability in Russia. Rest in peace, Alexei Navalny.”
