I would like to add my voice to those in the city of Everett who do not want to be subject to the Navy’s wake-up and overly long bugle blasts every morning.
This annoying, nerve-jarring daily event is ridiculously unnecessary in modern times. No private entity would be allowed to disturb the peace in such a manner.
I do not want to debate the value of the Navy base to our community, besides it being a source of revenue to those who have taverns, fast food restaurants, tattoo parlors, casinos and such businesses frequented by service members.
It is clear to me that there are many people who do not want to hear daily ear-splitting bugle calls waking up those whose jobs are such that they sleep days, are sick, old, or otherwise have their lives made unpleasant by this intrusion.
I live some distance from the base, but even earplugs do not drown out the annoying sound. It is not a call to prayer of thankfulness to the military for keeping us safe from terrorists. It is apparently used to summon sleeping service members to breakfast.
Please stop.
