I am an American citizen, formerly from Everett, who has recently moved to Surrey, B.C., to live with my husband. As the Christmas season was approaching, I was curious as to how Canada, or more specifically the Canadian government agencies, dealt with Christmas. I mean this area is so diverse in population! There are people here from all over the globe! How much political correctness was going to happen?
This is what I saw. Nativity scenes on city government buildings, teachers with nativity scenes in their classrooms, the elementary Christmas programs including Christ’s birth! I took pictures to show my kids, I was so amazed. Along with these displays, I saw Santa and snowmen, etc., just like it used to be in the old days when I was a little kid, and I am only 47 years old.
Oh, my gosh! How awful! They excluded other religions! They put things pertaining to the birth of Jesus on and in government buildings. For shame!
Gee, you know what the Canadians told me? “Oh, we went through that stuff about 10 years ago. We got over it. We have lots of different people here from different countries. We just get along!”
Wow! They “just get along.” Amazing.
Do not get me wrong. I am a devout American! I bleed red, white and blue But how embarrassing to be an American at Christmas time.
