In response to the Dec. 27 guest commentary recommending that Everett adopt City Council districts, I would like to notify all residents of Everett of a newly formed citizen’s group. “Neighbors For Neighborhoods” is a non-profit (501-C4) organization whose mission is to preserve and protect the existing residential quality of Everett neighborhoods through improvement, information and advocacy.
Neighbors For Neighborhoods was created to give residents of Everett a more powerful voice. The impetus behind our formation was frustration regarding the rezoning of property for the hospital expansion. The city had a responsibility to keep us informed about the development of our neighborhood, inform us of any plan changes, work on traffic problems, and consider our input and concerns regarding our neighborhood. Unfortunately, those things did not happen, or to such a negligible degree, that we felt we must make our voices heard. What started with a rezoning issue has now expanded to safe walking programs for school children, traffic advisory input, advocacy for North Everett flooding victims, appropriate development of Broadway, and more issues to come.
We feel that our city is made up of intelligent, concerned people who have ideas and energy for maintaining and improving the quality of our city. There is no cost for membership in Neighbors For Neighborhoods — contributions will help cover the costs to research, monitor and communicate to members. We want your input, as much time as you can spare, and your passion for the neighborhoods of Everett — not only the one you live in, but all the neighborhoods that make our city so great.
