Delpha Hordyk strongly implies in her letter (“Boy Scouts: Standing for principles,” Sept. 30) that she believes that gay people are not healthy and virtuous. And, somehow, straight people can fall into the gay lifestyle.
I must say this. She is basing her judgment of an entire group of people, who by many estimates comprise as much as 10 percent of our population, on the behavior of a few members of a highly visible subculture. There are thousands of gay people who are model citizens leading virtuous and productive lives. This is not the exclusive province of the Boy Scouts. Furthermore, there is no way that a confirmed heterosexual can be recruited into the homosexual lifestyle. There is no vast conspiracy afoot to do so.
This tarring of all gays with the same brush would be tantamount to my believing that Silvana is populated by nothing but ignorant bigots, based solely on reading one letter from there.
