I understand the Carnegie Library building has been home to some art displays recently, but it has not yet been decided what the long-term plan is for this landmark building in Snohomish. Let’s consider the possibility of this being a place for teens to be a part of historic Snohomish.
I know that Snohomish is fortunate to have a new Boys and Girls Club, but 16-to-19-year-olds have pretty much outgrown it.
The Carnegie building could house a place for the teens of Snohomish to meet and enjoy things such as a study and reference room, a TV and game room, a bowling alley in the lower portion, and a place to have coffee and a good conversation.
The fundraising campaign for a project like this would be a difficult one. The funding necessary to refurnish an old building is extensive. What better way for the community to support the young adults of their city? We don’t need another antique shop or tavern, we need a place for this age group to be and to give back to the community.
I think there is a large enough group in the age bracket of 16 to 19 who would be more than willing to contribute to the planning, fundraising and hands-on tasks to have a place to go.
