In response to the Tuesday letter, “ORV users are own worst enemy,” I would like to provide some clarification.
By and large off-road vehicle users are not the ones dumping garbage at Reiter. Just how often do you see a person on a motorcycle or ATV hauling an old appliance on their back into the woods?
Take a look at the type of dumping and environmental damage that exists. Abandoned cars, household garbage, old appliances, construction debris, etc., does not come from the ORV enthusiasts, it comes directly from the local community.
The truth of the matter is that ORV organizations put on regular clean-up events where they donate their labor and equipment to clean up the mess that they did not make. This can be confirmed by the Washington Department of Natural Resource. Just call their Northwest Region headquarters and ask the staff responsible for managing public access to Reiter.
Happy trails.
