In response to the Sept. 14 letter to the editor by Al Thurmond (“Can President Bush step up to the challenge?”) I offer the following: I find it hard to understand that there are Americans who have this kind of attitude during this moment of crisis. Polls show that approximately 90 percent of those polled support President Bush and have the utmost confidence in his ability to handle and manage this attack on our country and our freedom. Why are the other 10 percent, including Mr. Thurmond, not in total support of our president?
All Americans should be galvanized in their resolve and support. Those who point fingers and cast doubt during trying times have no business being called an American. Mr. Thurmond made comment in his letter that he hoped that Bush selected competent advisors to help him handle this crisis. I have total confidence that Cheney, Powell and the other advisors are the best possible people to deal with a very difficult and complex matter. And if President Bush consults his father on this crisis, so much the better, as his father has just a little experience in these matters. Finally, I agree with Mr. Thurmond’s last comment that “Arrogance and cluelessness are not what we need know.” So Please Mr. Thurmond and those who think like him, get a clue!
