The Tuesday letter, “Parties should pick their candidates” makes a good point “Does it not make sense that those who choose which candidates that run under the banner of a party be of that party?”
But there’s one huge problem. The party isn’t paying for the election. Unless the parties foot the bill we, the taxpayers, should be able to vote for whoever we want.
