The Aug. 23 letter, “Political parties keep me from voting,” puzzled me. How did the political parties kept him from voting for sheriff and county clerk? Those were non-partisan races not requiring anyone to declare a party. The only place the writer had to declare a preference for a party was to vote for county executive. Did he not read the instructions or understand them?
Does it not make sense that those who choose which candidates that run under the banner of a party be of that party? I’m a Democrat; should I choose the Republican candidate for governor next year? In the general election I can vote for anyone I choose because I’m voting for the governor of the state, not the candidate of a party.
