Party needs to apologize to Rossi

Regarding the Thursday article, “Democrats pull Rossi ad with “Sopranos” music”:

The Democratic Party of Washington released an attack ad on Dino Rossi. This ad featured Mr. Rossi’s photo accompanied by the sound-track of “The Sopranos.”

As a lifelong Washington Democrat I cannot begin to tell you how repulsed I was when I saw this ad.

Many of us remember that former Gov. Albert Rosellini was running far ahead in the race for his third term when false “mafia ties” rumors were floating around, causing Gov. Rosellini to lose the election.

This type of career-killing innuendo is the slimiest of political tricks, and an offense to all Italian-Americans.

Democratic Party spokesman Kelly Steele’s claims that “the video was not meant to imply a tie to the mafia or organized crime” are not believable.

The Democratic Party of Washington needs to apologize to Dino Rossi, as well as the Italian-American community.

I also believe that Party Chairman Dwight Pelz needs to resign. Anything less sends a clear message that racism will be tolerated in the Washington state Democratic Party.
