Every year in the United States, three to four million animals are put to death due to overcrowded shelters. Many Americans turn a blind eye to the pet population problem, but it is high time that it is addressed in our country and in our own community.
I am asking, actually begging, the Everett Herald to put a stop to offering classified ads to animal breeders of any kind. I am sickened to see the same breeders post ads in your newspaper for months, only adding to our growing problem.
I understand that the Herald also promotes several area shelters, but I would like to see them only promote the shelters to give these animals a fighting chance at getting adopted. There are so many area rescues which also need promoted. These rescues are in desperate need of foster families, monetary donations, community event promotion and volunteer help.
Please consider my suggestion and be a part of the solution, not a promoter of the problem.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me. I am a foster for a local rescue and a volunteer at PAWS. I would be glad to give you any information that you need to make the right choice.
