Thank you for your Friday editorial about the benefits of the Farmers Market Nutrition Program that is provided by through the WIC program. As a nutritionist who has provided WIC services for nearly 20 years, I couldn’t agree with you more. But your information was incomplete.
Pregnancy Aid of Snohomish County is also providing WIC services and issuing Farmer’s Markets coupons, and has been doing so since those programs began. These services are provided in Arlington, Marysville, Granite Falls, Snohomish and Monroe.
The Farmers Market Nutrition Program is a federally funded program administered by the Washington state Department of Health. There is a Farmers Market Nutrition Program for low-income senior citizens as well.
Sadly, it is not a well-funded program, and many who are eligible are not able to fully participate.
