In regard to recent letters to the editor regarding cuts to the U.S. Postal Service: You are not likely to hear much from the Republicans on this matter.
Because they feel that they are getting just what they have wanted for over 50 years. I am a retired postal clerk. I worked at the Everett office for 30 years. All the time I worked there we were fighting off Republicans from privatizing the Postal Service.
Yes, the postal service is in the Constitution; it was never intended to be a profit-making institution. It was intended to break even as often as possible, but with all of the road blocks by the Republican Party that were put in its way, it was very difficult. The Postal Service was intended to be a service for all of the American people, not a cash cow for some big corporation.
One of the Republican dirty tricks was to mandate that the postal service must prefund future workers’ pensions 75 years into the future. There is not now, nor ever has been a company or
federal department that has had that mandated to them. This is prefunding employees who have not even been born yet. Lets see your company do that.
So you see. Republicans now figure that the current resident in the White House is going to get them what they have been salivating over all these years.
Do not let them get away with this latest attack on the American people. Vote!
