There seems to be a new allergy sweeping across the state. A lot of people are suffering some kind of deficiency that makes them allergic to profit. It’s as if anyone who utters the word makes the victim break out in itchy hives with a propensity to curse at the evil companies or industries that exist to fill a need in society and make money at the same time.
On Wednesday, a letter writer pointed at insurance companies as the allergen that is making him sick (“Insurance profits sure don’t help us”). I take it he wants every company, vendor, supplier, doctor, teacher, mechanic, clerk, landscaper and musician to give him their time, talents and skills without regard for making a profit.
I recommend the following treatment for your allergy to profit: Try to exist one week on this planet without using any item necessary for sustaining life that isn’t made available to you by a company that is only able to provide those items because it makes a profit.
One more thing, read and memorize this quote: He who giveth all that he hath to the destitute soon joineth their ranks.
