After reading about another person being hurt because of the paving being done on I-5, I started thinking about how long this has been going on. I work by a section of I-5 that’s being worked on in Everett and is way behind schedule for completion, and after seeing the rate of speed that these people are working, I can understand why.
My co-workers and I had the displeasure of watching a guy take 15 minutes to sweep off a 4- by 8-foot scaffolding platform. “State money — take your time.”
I have an idea: Put the people who are in charge of planning all of this construction that’s scattered all over the state on a salary based on commission — they don’t get paid until the job is done. I would be willing to bet that our road projects would be done in a more timely fashion. Maybe it’s just me, but common sense dictates that if you put a bigger crew on a project, it gets done faster. All we seem to see lately are a few people here and there, blocking traffic, taking their time, and creating a commuting nightmare. Just my thoughts.
