Well, it’s been three weeks since Boeing made its announcement of building the second line for the 787 in South Carolina. Friday was the groundbreaking ceremony for this major facility.
Let’s see what they have accomplished for a site that was just recently selected. First, they selected an architect and negotiated the contracts. All of the architectural drawings have been completed and been approved by the state. An environmental impact statement has been completed. The building permits have been issued. The general contractor and sub-contractors have been selected and the contracts have been negotiated. All of the materials have been purchased or are on order. The construction workers are ready to go to work.
That sure is a great deal to do in such a short period of time. How in the world could we compete with such efficiency? Many suspect that Boeing had already made its decision. You decide.
