Red Cross’ program has PUD’s support

A letter by Mr. James Walker in Letters to the Editor on April 1 addressed an American Red Cross-administered emergency energy assistance program called Project PRIDE. This unique community-supported program was established several years ago by the Snohomish County Chapter, in partnership with the Snohomish County PUD, to assist consumers unable to make full payment of their PUD bill.

At the request of the Red Cross, the PUD agreed to include a means for the public to make voluntary donations to support this cause by including an elective option on their billing statements. Funds are accumulated in the form of a designated overpayment by generous PUD subscribers, with strict accountability by both the PUD and Red Cross. PUD initiates a monthly transmittal of all donations to Red Cross where the funds are dispersed on a case-by-case basis.

Project PRIDE is strictly a Red Cross program made possible by cooperation of the Snohomish County PUD, and solely with local donations. The Red Cross thanks the PUD and generous donors for their support.
