The weekend of Jan. 5, I was honored to be invited to attend the open house of the previously mysterious Scottish Rite Temple located kiddy corner to the Snohomish County parking garage. This open house was announced in The Herald. This welcome opportunity was extremely satisfying.
Once inside I was amazed at the beauty and skillful pre-Depression opulence of the structure. The ornate craftsmanship of the previous era of a century ago was astonishing. To me it is the most beautiful interior structure in Everett. The marbleized walls, delicate woodwork and unblemished hardwood floors showed skillful craftsmanship and unrivaled maintenance. The main meeting room has a high cathedral colorful ceiling. A large eagle with wings outstretched in the forefront ceiling represents a loyal respect for our country. A portrait of George Washington hangs on the wall as our first president of the United States.
In addition to the beauty of this building it is paramount to recall and recognize the good service and leadership this organization ha served to this community. Previous generations have had the benefit of good leadership and guidance through the DeMolays for young men and Rainbow for young girls. This involves fellowship and experience on a social level with other groups of young men and girls in other cities. This Scottish Rite Masons and Eastern Star provided social life and service to their respective communities.
This city of Everett should not destroy historical and remarkably beautiful building in its hunger for entertainment, which is not the duty of a civic council. Save the Scottish Rite Temple.
