I hope our congressional delegation will reject the Trump administration’s proposals to cut federal funding for public transportation and instead renew our nation’s commitment to mobility for all Americans.
Federal funding for public transportation is a sound investment that creates jobs, spurs economic development and helps limit traffic congestion and air pollution. Furthermore, public transportation connects people to jobs and education, and gives older Americans, veterans, and people with disabilities access to essential services and their larger communities.
We need to build interconnected, multi-modal transportation networks that meet the diverse needs of our growing population and economy. In 2015, Congress committed to a long-term investment in public transportation. Now the administration’s proposed cuts threaten to take America in the wrong direction.
There has been strong bipartisan support in Congress for public transportation funding up to now. I urge our congressional delegation to stand up once again for transportation, include investment in public transit as part of any new infrastructure initiative, and reject the administration’s proposed funding cuts.
