On Wednesday, reporter Katie Murdoch wrote an article headlined “Disease doesn’t define her.” In this article a woman with Crohn’s disease spoke of her challenges due to her disease. The reporter mentioned that there is a law that was sponsored by Rep. Marko Liias requiring businesses to allow customers with gastrointestinal disorders to use employee restrooms when no public restroom is available at such business.
I researched this law and found that all one has to do is go to www.doh.wa.gov to find the form, print it out and have it signed by your doctor. The law covers people who suffer from Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis or any other inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, any condition requiring use of an ostomy device, or any permanent or temporary medical condition requiring immediate access to a restroom. I have friends and family who would benefit from this information so I’ve decided that publishing this letter has to be of benefit to many. Please spread the word!
