We want to write this letter to the city planners to let them know these Silver Lake residents are in full support of the project slated for 19th Avenue. The Silver Lake project has been delayed for far too long and it is time for some sweeping improvements to this area. My wife and I use 19th Avenue every day and have often visualize what they are planning.
Let’s face it, urban sprawl has already taken over and it’s time to update the roads to meet the demands of the public. We had to laugh at the sentence in the front-page article (Sept. 15, “Everett’s Silver Lake is full of potential”) that read: “… changes will bring more fast-paced commuter traffic through their neighborhood, devastating to the serenity of Everett’s only freshwater jewel.” The area is already devastated and widening and beautifying this portion of 19th Avenue will bring back serenity by allowing the traffic to pass through more easily. Widening the road will allow for drainage ponds to filter the oil left by vehicles – which now drains directly into the lake.
Silver Lake Road is also long overdue for some changes. We have been cut off many times by residents darting out of their street. It is a tough intersection to negotiate when turning left onto 19th Avenue. They need a safer and more convenient way to exit their neighborhood. We have never voted in favor of past tax increases. However, we are willing to do so to fund this overdue project.
