I am writing in response to the Sunday letter regarding Paul Roberts and the writer’s request that Roberts step down from one of the two positions he works for with both Marysville and Everett.
I do not see a conflict of interest in the two positions Paul holds. Furthermore, Paul Roberts is a man of high integrity. Paul has worked with our government on many levels (county and city) and I am positive that if issues arise in the carrying out of his duties in either position, Paul would quickly remove himself from being a factor in making a decision. This type of “stepping aside” for single issues is done at all levels of the government, including the U.S. House and Senate.
I have no doubt that Paul is capable of handling both jobs in the necessary manner that is required of him. Besides, being an Everett City Council member does not require a person to step down, as it is only a part-time Job. Many of our council members over the years have had jobs which may at one time or another appear to conflict with their roles. I personally have no doubts about Paul Roberts for most any position in our government.
