Room for us all, if we lose the fear

I read your Friday editorial, “Obama’s challenge to look below the surface.”

Thank you for writing that piece.

My sense is that fear (and those who perpetuate it) is rearing its ugly head — fear of those who do not look like us, who do not have the same world view, etc.

I was home sick the other day, and got a glimpse of Joyce Meyer’s inspiring TV program where she encourages viewers that being a “believer” does not mean that it’s not all right to be “different”/to be yourself…! If more of us could appreciate what that truly means — how freeing it could be for our world.

Your main point was well taken — that we share so much more in common than that which threatens to divide us as a community and as a nation.
