I am so saddened by John McCain’s recent loss of his position as an independent voice in the Republican Party. In a naked push to secure the party’s nomination in 2008, he now sounds like a George Bush who passed English but also failed history and economics.
I am put in mind of Richard Nixon’s funeral when Bob Dole wept and blessed the dearly departed only to have a book come out shortly thereafter in which Nixon is reported to have held Dole in low esteem. There are enough lessons in life histories that continue to prove what Polonius told his son: “This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.”
