Safe, American cars more important

Regarding the Wednesday letter, “State gas mileage in reviews of cars:”

Like your little hybrid huh? Let me tell you a little story. A while back I was driving home from a dinner cruise in Seattle and this full size, red pickup truck, with tires taller than my hood, smacked into the side of my Town Car and sped off at more than 80 mph. This bounced me over about 2 feet in the lane and I thought for sure the side of my car was caved in. When I got home it was dark and I couldn’t see any damage. The next morning I checked out the car and there were rubber marks on the fender and the chrome was a little wrinkled. Had I been in one of those little death traps, I would have been going end-over- end down the embankment alongside the freeway and they would have had to post yet another one of those “please don’t drink and drive” signs alongside the road with my name on it.

By the way, my Town Car gets 21.5 miles to the gallon and the cost of the gasoline is worth the added safety and comfort. By the way, while you’re driving down the freeway in that little death trap made by Japan and company, check under those bridges your crossing and count all the people that could have had jobs if you’d bought American.
