School buses need seat belts and limits on capacity

My name is Grace Davis and I am a seventh-grade middle schooler at Eisenhower Middle School in the Everett School District. I am writing today because I think that we should have seat belts on school buses and reduce the maximum number of passengers per seat.

My bus driver says we can fit three middle schoolers per seat but that doesn’t really work for us. We can really only fit two students per seat because we are too big and because we have fat backpacks and because we carry heavy instruments with us. My school bus driver also says if we were in an accident we could go flying if we are sitting on the aisle seat edge.

I’m concerned that my bus has more kids than any other in the school. It’s harder to fit people in seats and harder to get on and off the bus. If there was an emergency it would be harder to evacuate the bus quickly because of the overcrowding and the possibility of people laying in the aisles if they fell out of their seats.

As a solution I think the school district should reduce the sizes of the bus routes. I also think buses should add lap seat belts and reduce the maximum number of kids per seat.
