The June 28 letter, “Require helmets at skate parks” asked: “Why would the city (any city for that matter) not require helmets to be worn?”
In 2012, the Milton, Washington, City Council repealed its 12-year-old ordinance requiring helmets be worn at the city’s skate park. Milton’s insurance consultant apparently advised the Milton City Council that an unevenly enforced helmet ordinance exposed the city to liability. The New York Times covered the story in the June 18, 2012, article “Dropping helmet laws to reduce a town’s risk.”
