Finally! You had an article regarding the awful truth about cigarette butts in downtown Everett. (“Tamper-proof cigarette bins may cut down on litter in downtown Everett.”) People go through the current cigarette containers and make a mess. So, these new cigarette containers that are tamper-proof are supposed to make it better. Hmmm. Could we incorporate these cigarette containers into neighborhoods where people walk so we don’t have this pervasive problem?
In front of my home and all along the sidewalks of my neighborhood we have a litter of cigarette butts. Most cigarette smokers are litterbugs and it’s disgusting as far as what is left behind (their spit is on the butts, for Pete’s sake!) How can cigarette smokers get away with littering when there are anti-littering laws? Cigarette smokers need to bring along on their walks something they can put their cigarette butts in and then put in a trash can later when they get home. We already expect dog walkers to do the same thing.
I do not smoke cigarettes. It shouldn’t be me cleaning up cigarette butts in front of my home. Do you smokers who throw your cigarette butts in front of our yard and on sidewalks and gutters think I should be responsible for your disgusting cigarette butts? Don’t you have pride for your neighborhood? After all you walk through the neighborhood. Would you smokers want a bunch of cigarette butts in your yards and sidewalks? Do you smokers who throw your butts in front of my home think I am responsible for your garbage? Where is your pride?
Please take care of your cigarette butts so we can all enjoy our outdoors area. Thank you for reading.
