Professor William Cronon of the University of Wisconsin lists nine attributes of a successful comprehensive education: listening, reading, writing, talking, puzzle solving, humility, tolerance, empathy, and empowering others. Possessing these attributes leads to a profound connection with others. Students acquiring such an education are positioned for success in the world. While Cronon teaches at the university level, his observations apply to an educational process beginning in the earliest grades.
Needless to say school board positions are critical to successful education outcomes, though voting participation for them is frequently low. Now that Moms for Liberty have set up shop in Snohomish County, making informed choices and voting in these races is even more critical.
Moms for Liberty are far-right, anti-LGBTQ and white supremacist. It has banned books in schools, degraded curricula, divided communities, disrupted school board meetings and operations, and harassed teaching professionals. Its members frequently run for school board positions. It does not support public education. Reading up on this group is advised; they are likely here to stay.
Please take a hard look at the Snohomish School District school board elections. Sarah Adams and Tabitha Baty are outstanding selections.
Sarah Adams is running for Position 4. Sarah Adams is the incumbent school board member and highly regarded by her peers; a mental health professional; her children attend Snohomish public schools.
Tabitha Baty: Position 2, an open position. Tabitha is a parent whose children graduated from Snohomish public schools. Tabitha works hard to bring equity issues to light in Snohomish.
Please vote!
