When House Speaker Paul Ryan shared the Republicans had been a “Party of No” for seven years as an explanation of why they are struggling to come up with a health care plan Americans could support, I wondered when not legislating for seven years and still getting paid by citizens was even an admission that any ethical person would make.
This week when former RNC Chairman Michael Steele stated this week his party had seven years to come up with an alternative to the ACA and they did nothing to come up with an alternative, I wondered when not working to solve one of our most crushing economic issues and still get paid was acceptable.
We had a system in the 1950-’70s where a vibrant middle class was paid a livable wage, had affordable health care and a pension.
If the Republicans want to repeal the ACA, then they should first repeal all the legislation they enacted that took away the middle class wages, insurance and pensions to create a two-class system of poor and obscenely wealthy.
Then we may have a shot at being a great country again.
