The county’s decision to make sheriff’s deputies pay for parking in the new parking garage is unfair.
I personally believe it is unfair to require Snohomish County personnel who have a duty to respond to the public to pay for parking in the new parking garage. They do not have the option of finding off-site parking because it would impair their ability to respond to the urgent needs of the public that they are paid to respond to. Anyone whose job requires them to respond to the public on an on-call basis in a county-owned vehicle should not be financially penalized for something that is required under their job description.
It is my hope that the council will reconsider their decision and allow waivers from the monthly parking fees for these types of county employees.
