I am writing to express my support for the proposed women and children’s Pallet shelter community in south Everett (“Group sues to stop south Everett Pallet shelter on vacant city property,” The Herald, July 29). According to the 7/29 Herald article, it would be in its own separate area with Volunteers of America employees supervising the community and monitoring for drug and alcohol use.
I do not think that this project should be canceled due to a technicality in Everett’s Comprehensive Plan.
I have been a proud resident of south Everett’s Holly Neighborhood for seven years. I love my interesting and beautifully diverse neighborhood. There are many upscale and affluent areas of Snohomish County. But I have always thought of south Everett as one place where those of us who are not affluent can be ourselves and prosper.
In south Everett, we are not too rich to have a Pallet shelter. We are not too poor to have a Pallet shelter. And I pray to God that we are not too hard-hearted to have one! Let’s open the Pallet shelter and give these families a safe place to stay!
