Regarding the Thursday article, “Quest for new ferries sped up”: Here we go again. Somebody new in the chair of the state transportation secretary. Paula Hammond says she wants to begin “next year” to come up with some workable ideas on how to replace the old steel electric ferries. And this comes on the heels of a “study” that has taken six years and $5.5 million to do the same thing, which apparently has solved nothing.
Good grief, doesn’t Paula have anything new to say? That’s the huge problem with Washington state – those who are in charge are perfectly happy “studying” the problems instead of fixing anything. I’m glad to see the word interim precede Ms. Hammond’s job title – one can only hope she’s there for the short term.
