A primary function of government is public safety. Police services, fire services and emergency medical services are certainly included in public safety. These services need to be funded and then, if there is still money available, we fund other proper government functions.
Our state legislators went to Olympia this year looking at a $2 billion surplus. They spent it and we still don’t have paramedics in Snohomish. The previous session began with a $1.5 billion surplus. They spent all of that and raised taxes dramatically.
Now you want us to come up with just a few dollars more. A billion here and a billion there, and pretty soon we are talking big bucks.
Unless we stand up and just say no, our elected representatives are never going to understand that our pockets are not an unlimited resource.
