As you well know, the traffic light in Sultan is backing up traffic on Highway 2 for 10 to 15 miles to the east on weekends. Last night, it took 1 1/2 hours to get from Index to the light. Add that for hundreds and hundreds of vehicles each Sunday, and the amount of gas and productivity wasted is phenomenal. It has been getting worse every year.
I have been traveling through Sultan on weekends since 1979. In that time, I have spent thousands on gas and groceries and other services (car wash; bakery; hardware store) as I traveled over and back to eastern Washington. But until that traffic jam is fixed, I am never coming back. I’ll go over Blewett Pass and patronize Leavenworth instead.
