As the president of Snohomish County SAFE KIDS I felt inclined to respond to the recent tragedy regarding the drowning deaths of the two children at Silver Lake last month.
We are saddened by this unfortunate event and our heart goes out to the families of these girls. Such tragedies further fuel our mission to educate the community on injury prevention and safety.
Lifeguards and life jackets are not 100 percent effective in preventing drowning. A child can drown in as little as one inch of water and it can happen in a matter of seconds. Do not assume your child is drown proof, never rely on life jackets or swim lessons to protect your child. SAFE KIDS would like to remind families and caregivers that adult supervision is key to preventing accidental injury and death.
