Fighting despair by fighting poverty is a idea whose time has come (“Forum: $100 million to shelter homeless a bargain for our budget, souls,” The Herald, Nov. 16) by Jenna Nand.
Local solutions like Gov. Jay Inslee’s $100 million proposal to deal with the homelessness challenge and national solutions like a renter tax credit to cut off the flow to evictions and homelessness are a good start. The proven expanded Child Tax Credit helped families pay rent and basic bills needs to be renewed.
Working together, calling on Congress to do the same, is exactly what needs to happen. We have an opportunity to work for equity with U.S. Rep. Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., a champion of ending the despair of poverty. Tell her thanks and to keep going to make America the country of hope for all.
