The homeless situation in Snohomish County continues to grow worse. As the economy “improves,” more and more people are unable to meet even the most basic needs of food and shelter. The costs of rent, food, clothing and utilities continue to escalate while wages remain either flat or decrease.
Now the local taxpayers are being asked to spend $200 million-plus on a “home” for auto races which would rarely be used. Could not that same money be used to house the homeless, which would see continual use?
Granted, the homeless people don’t vote and therefore have no voice; that does not excuse their being dismissed as irrelevant. Basic human life should be more important than frivolous human wants. The poor and needy should be equally as important as the “big money boys” of NASCAR. Our elected officials are in office to represent all the people, not just the party donators.
