I am disgusted with the situation in Marysville. My disgust does not lie with the actions of the teachers, but with the sickening acts of the school board members and the superintendent.
It is one thing to not give anything extra in a new contract, yet it is another when money is taken away. The fact that we pay professional athletes millions of dollars a year to play a game that they love and pay the very people we entrust the lives of our children with each day only a fraction of such an amount makes one laugh.
I have never met a more caring bunch of people than all of the teachers I have known in my lifetime. They work to squeeze a job most would do in 12 months into nine measly months. All the extra time teachers give of themselves is unpaid. As my mother is a teacher, if she were paid for all of the extra time she spends after school, on weekends and on the endless amount of committees she is forced to join, the school district could not afford her.
My cry is for the teachers to hold strong like an oak. Do not sway, for the public needs more wonderful people like you in their children’s lives. I also hope that the public will rally behind the teachers and realize that teachers truly are unsung heroes.
