I want to share a wonderful act of kindness that I witnessed. It certainly increased my faith in our young generation.
I was driving in downtown Everett with my grandchildren and stopped at the red light on Broadway waiting to turn left onto Everett Avenue.
When the walk sign changed, a petite, elderly lady started across the intersection, pushing her walker. I could tell by the determined look on her face that she was going as fast as she could. Unfortunately, her fastest wasn’t fast enough. She was barely half way through the intersection when the light changed.
I was worried that the people in the cars in the two lanes on my right couldn’t see her, picturing the worst and wondering what to do.
Suddenly, a teenager saw the danger the lady was in, and shouting to his friend to help, ran between the lady and the oncoming cars. With their hands up to stop the traffic until she was safely across Broadway.
I was so touched by their bravery and kindness. I hope somehow these young men hear how awesome they are, and because of young people like them, our world has hope.
