I read with pleasure the article about high school sports and the Herald Athletic Cup (“2023-34 Herald Athletic Cub: Jackson reclaims first place,” The Herald, June 3).
I don’t follow high school sports, though doubtless will when my grandsons are older. I was struck by the careful calculus that went into awarding the cup, and the effort to fairly evaluate each team’s performance. Math in action! Thank you Taras McCurdie and the Herald!
In a time when most clerks cannot make change without a screen, this demonstration of the value of math literacy is refreshing.
