How do you say “thank you” to people whose names you don’t know or remember? I have to try.
On Wednesday, Oct. 4, I was walking my dog, Muffy, when I grew dizzy, staggered and fell face down on a gravel driveway.
I don’t remember falling. The first thing I remember is a man telling me he was there to help me. Within minutes several people were around me, some were helping me sit up and providing support, others had brought towels to stem my bleeding.
Total strangers were there to help and console a bewildered, frightened 90-year-old man. My dog was taken care of while another applied compresses to stop the bleeding. I didn’t know any of these kind people. I remember seeing one lady walking past her home while she gardened. I remembered that she always smiled and greeted me and Muffy. A man who was driving by saw me fall and immediately stopped and rushed to help me.
Someone had called for an aid car, which soon showed up. The Marysville EMTs came and cleaned, then dressed my several bleeding facial wounds. They were solicitous and very professional in their work.
After returning home and taking care of my invalid wife, I drove to the Marysville Everett Clinic Walk-in where Dr. Hall examined my injuries. It was now too late to go to an Everett Clinic facility for a CAT scan. Dr. Hall insisted, and I agreed, to go directly to the Providence ER for a CAT scan to determine if I had any injuries. I could see that this doctor was concerned, and wanted me to have the best available care.
The Providence ER personnel were professional and comforting during the hours I was in their care, I was constantly impressed with their business-like, but friendly, attitude.
I met some kind, decent people who rushed to help a stranger. I can’t find the words to express my gratitude to the complete strangers who rushed to my assistance, the EMTs who were professional, and supportive, the medical people at the Everett Clinic walk-in, who gave me encouragement and insisted I continue on. What more can I say about the staff at Providence who treated me?
Wednesday afternoon and evening I met some wonderful people. I am sincerely appreciative of everything done for me by so many people who didn’t know me, but saw I needed help. I am grateful to everyone whom I came in contact with that day. Please forgive me for not having your name to put in writing, but be assured what you did was appreciated.
Aren’t we all fortunate to live among, and interact with such wonderful people?
